How to beat the Texas Heat....

In Texas there are really only two things that you can enjoy outdoors in the sweltering summer heat. Playing in the pool and grilling. So over the weekend we filled up Meredith’s baby pool and she and Jonah and myself cooled off in the water and enjoyed ice pops while Josh grilled. Then we all relaxed out on the patio and had dinner outside. A perfect way to spend a summer evening on the weekend.

Father’s Day Mission

The hunt for the perfect Father’s Day gift for Josh started in early May! I wanted it to be something that he would enjoy. Josh is the most wonderful husband and father! And he does so much for me and for our family. I needed the gift to also be special

I thought about Glenn Beck’s newest book as part of his gift so I went to his website to browse around and noticed the advertisement that he and Bill O’Reilly were on tour together. The Bold and Fresh Tour 2010. Hmmm! I checked to see if they were coming to Dallas. Negative. But I did notice that they were going to be in St.Louis Father’s Day weekend. So, I put on my thinking cap and came up with a brilliant plan. I would take him to go see the show for Father’s Day. Perfect!

But then I started thinking. Josh is very passionate about politics. I enjoy it but I’m not as passionate about it as he is. So, I started thinking he might actually enjoy going with a friend more than me that is also passionate about politics. That could only be one person – his good friend and fraternity brother Paul Damico. So, I got online, booked the flights, found the hotel, bought the tickets, emailed Paul the plans and Voila! Father’s Day 2010 mission accomplished!

I think he and Paul really enjoyed the show and had a great time hanging out together and I enjoyed some one on one time with the kids this weekend! But of course we were very excited to see Josh when he got home yesterday afternoon!

The first thing Jonah wanted to do when he woke up yesterday morning was “Bake a cake for Daddy” So that’s what we did! After he got home we all took a family nap and then grilled steaks for dinner. A perfect end to the weekend!

{Jonah frosting his cake. We also sang Happy Father’s Day (to the tune of Happy Birthday) complete with candles!}

Splash Days

Jonah and Meredith have Splash days every week at school for the Summer! There is no complaining about getting dressed and ready for school on those days! Jonah is usually in his swimsuit before I can even finish preparing breakfast!

{Who doesn’t love ruffles?? Found this at Old Navy. It’s one of 5 Swimsuits we have bought for Meredith this summer! She is definitely ready for some Fun in the Sun!}

Officially a Soccer Mom

Josh and I attended our first "Parent's Meeting" for Jonah's soccer team this summer season on Wednesday night. The equipment list required: Soccer cleets and shin guards. Geez...they are four years old. Do they think it's going to get that rough out on the field. I kind of envisioned them running out on the field chasing one or two soccerballs and the occasional butterfly. But this sounds like a serious sport. He will have practice once a week in the evenings and games at 8am on Saturday morning. Yay! (insert sarcasm here) Goodbye any chance of sleeping in on the weekends now. It was nice knowing you!

He is so excited so I guess that smile on his face (see pic below) is worth the extra hour of sleep I will be losing on Saturday mornings. We picked up his jersey on Wed night after the meeting and we pretty much had to peel it off his body Thursday morning before he went to school.

He is also playing with some of his best friends from school. So, us moms have bought our "official soccer viewing chairs" and are now on the mad hunt for cute soccer mom shirts. Which makes me excited about soccer too!

Backyard Fun

Summer in the backyard can only mean one thing. Playing in the water. That can be anything from playing in the sprinklers, sliding on the slip and slide or playing in the pool. Though I wish it were a real pool.

Every summer I start thinking we need a pool but our backyard is so tiny. If we put in a pool it would take up practically our whole yard. I’m not sure it really makes sense! It’s probably best to wait until we move and find a house with a bigger back yard. Not that we are moving anytime soon but I don’t plan on staying in this house forever!
